The One The One anijam was a project i co-directed with my buddy Dillan Murillo. We successfully ran an anijam just a few years before and wanted to run the project again with public applications. We chose the song "On The One" by Nick Kingsley for its upbeat, fun energy and encouraged our animators to create shots based on an original theme.
Directing the project was great. We worked together to manage artists, create promotional materials, and we even animated our own shots. |
Application Posters and Logo
Before any work could start on the project, we needed to get some animators! I put together some ideas for promotional images for the project. We knew from the beginning we wanted to encourage a futuristic disco/funk theme, so I set out to establish that early on with the application poster!
Though the logo ended up getting a proper overhaul, we needed a prototype for the sake of promotion. The poster had to have enough open space to overlay text and links. We decided the Saturn design was the most interesting. |
With this simple background, Dillan was able to sit down and put together a proper set of promotional images.

Animating a shot
Using the key I made, I sat down and cleaned up some of the bandmates. Using these images I was able to clean them up super fast while animating.
Finishing Touches
For the final composite, Dillan and I passed off the after effects file between each other so we could both edit it when the other was too busy.
We were very clear with our animation team to discuss shot transitions with each other. Neighboring shots were planned with scene transitions in mind, meaning we could have a wide variety of transitions to keep the project fun and unique. The On The One Anijam was a labor of love by the entire team of artists and getting to work with them all made it so much fun. Everyone delivered such a unique and special take on their shots that makes the full anijam a treat to re-watch endlessly. Don't forget to watch the On The One Anijam yourself! |
